Job Description Job Description Degree in American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreting, certified ASL Interpreter credentials, and 1 year of experience as an ASL Interpreter in educational settings. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered. A full-time, on-site Sign Language Interpreter (SLI) position is available in Charleston, SC, supporting Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) students across elementary, middle, and high school levels. This contract role focuses on providing direct communication assistance in 1:1 settings and group environments, ensuring students have equitable access to classroom instruction, assemblies, and extracurricular activities. Key responsibilities include: Translating spoken language to sign language and vice versa for DHH students. Facilitating communication in classrooms and during school events. Supporting educational access by collaborating with teachers, staff, and advisory teams. Providing interpreting services in 1:1 pediatric and various school-based contexts. Preferred qualifications and experience: EIPA (Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment) score of 3.5 or higher strongly preferred. Demonstrated proficiency in sign language interpretation within educational settings. Experience working 1:1 with students from elementary through high school. Ability to adapt communication strategies for diverse academic and extracurricular needs. Location: Charleston, SCon-site role supporting local schools.
