Job Description Job Description Position Summary The Lab
Tech/Phlebotomist is responsible for accurately collecting,
labeling, handling, and preparing blood specimens for laboratory
testing. This role supports clinical operations by ensuring
specimen integrity, maintaining accurate documentation, and
assisting clinical staff in patient care activities under
appropriate supervision. The Phlebotomist demonstrates
professionalism, attention to detail, and a commitment to quality,
safety, and patient-centered service. Essential Duties and
Responsibilities The essential duties and responsibilities include,
but are not limited to, the following: Collect, label, and prepare
blood specimens for patient testing in accordance with established
procedures. Maintain specimen integrity through proper
identification, aseptic technique, and adherence to isolation and
safety protocols. Verify test requisitions by comparing orders with
nursing station logs and report discrepancies to appropriate
personnel. Confirm patient identity using approved identification
procedures prior to specimen collection. Track and document
specimen collection by initialing, dating, and recording collection
times; maintain daily collection logs. Assemble and file laboratory
reports and ensure accurate documentation within patient charts and
applicable logs. Monitor glucose levels by performing point-of-care
glucose testing, documenting results, and promptly reporting
abnormal values to providers. Perform bleeding time tests, enter
results into electronic systems, and notify appropriate personnel
of abnormal findings. Coordinate with nursing staff to ensure
appropriate timing for therapeutic drug monitoring specimen
collection. Assist laboratory or nursing staff with patient care
activities within scope and under clinical supervision. Maintain
quality assurance standards by following testing schedules,
completing quality control logs, and reporting any variances or
concerns. Maintain a safe, clean, and compliant work environment by
following departmental procedures and applicable regulations.
Resolve unusual or unclear test orders by contacting physicians,
nursing staff, pathologists, or reference laboratories; escalate
unresolved issues to supervisory staff. Knowledge, Skills, and
Abilities Proficiency in basic computer applications, including
Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel. Knowledge of medical
terminology. Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including proper
grammar usage. Demonstrated problem-solving and critical thinking
abilities. Ability to work independently with minimal direct
supervision. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to
communicate effectively with patients, staff, physicians, and the
general public. Commitment to providing courteous, professional,
and patient-focused service at all times. Dependable with
flexibility to meet scheduling needs. Professional, neat, and
approachable appearance. Education and Experience Requirements High
School diploma or equivalent – Required Current Lab Tech/Phlebotomy
Certification – Required Current CPR Certification – Required 1–3
years of experience in a medical office or healthcare setting –
