Job Description:

JOB PURPOSE:

The position is responsible for providing training and support to teachers and assisting with Reading program implementation. Position conducts staff development, performs classroom visitations, collects and reports student data, and monitors program.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develops and conducts in-service training for Reading teachers regarding the program, instructional strategies, and best practices.
  • Performs classroom visitations, assists teachers in the improvement of instructional performance, and monitors improvement.
  • Demonstrates lessons in classroom situations for observation by teachers.
  • Coordinates the testing of students.
  • Coordinates Reading schedules with existing instructional programs.
  • Monitors the progress of students
  • Serves as a resource to school administrators and content area teachers in identifying reading needs, adapting instructional techniques, and implementing Reading program.
  • Assists with the development of school literacy teams.
  • Collects and reports student data.
  • Initiates and maintains effective liaisons with district and professional associations to maintain a current knowledge of Reading and instructional best practices.

  • Proficient experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Student Information System (SIS).
  • Good knowledge of company and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Detailed knowledge of Federal, State, and local requirements for K-12 schools and charter school law.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Holds a Bachelor's degree or higher and an add-on endorsement for literacy coach or literacy specialist; or
  • Holds a Bachelor's degree or higher and is actively pursuing the literacy coach or literacy specialist endorsement by attending the SCDE Read to Succeed Coach Training or an alternative coach program that has been approved by the SCDE; or
  • Holds a Master's degree or higher in reading or a closely-related field and is actively pursuing the literacy coach or literacy specialist endorsement by attending the SCDE Read to Succeed Coach Training or an alternative coach program that has been approved by the SCDE.
  • Demonstrated evidence of involvement in school activities involving leadership responsibilities.
  • Reading Specialist Certification.
  • Effective instructional delivery techniques and excellent communication skills.
  • Proficient experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Student Information System (SIS).
  • Commitment to company values.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Works effectively with adults and motivates them to change practices
  • experience as a successful classroom teacher

  • experience with coaching and/ or mentoring

  • excellent communication, presentation, interpersonal, and time management skills

  • experience in data analysis to inform instruction

  • ability to integrate reading strategies into other content areas

  • knowledge of evidence- based reading research, quality reading instruction, and a depth of content knowledge

  • experience in increasing student achievement in reading

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • While performing the responsibilities of this position, the work environment characteristics listed below are representative of the environment the employee will encounter:
  • Usual office working conditions.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • No physical exertion required.
  • Travel within or outside of state.
  • Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force as frequently as needed to move objects.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with CSUSA salary and benefit policy. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by Charter Schools USA.

FLSA OVERTIME CATEGORY

Job is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.

EVALUATION

Performance will be evaluated in accordance with Charter Schools USA's policy.
